The Public Works Department

The City of Sherwood provides a weekly garbage pick-up and bi-weekly Recycle for all private residences.  Businesses may contract for weekly garbage pickup.  For Solid Wastes including water heaters or appliances, you may contact the Public Works Department at (501) 835-3288 to schedule pickup at no additional charge.  We encourage our residents to recycle.  A list of all recyclable items can be found by clicking HERE.Recycling Information

The City also offers a leaf pickup service from November 1st through January 31st. Residents can rake their leaves to the curbside and our Public Works Department trucks will vacuum up the leaves. Throughout the rest of the year, leaves that are bagged will be picked-up weekly.

Our Street and Drainage crews maintain our city streets, repair potholes, maintain street signs and keep the drainage ditches clear of debris to ensure against flooding or water backup onto residential property.

Another service for our citizens is free compost. Sherwood residents can come to the Public Works Department and get compost for their yards and gardens.

The City encourages its residents to recycle.  Public Works offers recycling for electronics and household quantities of used motor oil, antifreeze and gasoline, and fluorescent bulbs (4 ft only).  The Public Works Department accepts these recyclable items on Mondays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Items can be dropped off at 6500 North Hills Boulevard during these times only.  Chemicals are no longer accepted and should be discarded according to the manufacturer’s label.

We do not recycle wet paint.  To be acceptable for the landfill, paint must be completely solidified.  Paint leaking into trucks and onto roadways poses a tremendous cleanup challenge.

 Suggestions for drying:
        • Leave the lid off the can and set it out to dry.
        • Paint can be mixed with kitty litter or sand.
        • You can purchase a product at most local hardware/paint stores that will shorten the drying process and Solidify the paint.

Once the paint has hardened or dried, the cans can be put in your trash cans.

Our Public Works Department sprays for mosquitoes several times per year during the peak seasons. We use non-toxic spray and time our spraying to minimize any effect on children or animals that may be outside. Standing water is treated with larvacide to reduce the number of mosquitoes that can hatch.

Overall, our Public Works Department plays a vital role in keeping our City clean so that our residents can spend their free time outside enjoying their neighborhood or one of the many City operated parks.
