Arkansas Blood Institute and the City of Sherwood are hosting a blood drive with a goal of 15 successful donations on Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bill Harmon Recreation Center, located at 51 Shelby Road. Donors will receive a t-shirt and one free entry to Magic Springs Water & Theme Park. Appointments are encouraged and may be made by visiting https://bit.ly/swaug23blooddrive or calling 501-835-6893. 

    Donors can save up to 15 minutes during their appointment time by using Donor Express to complete pre-donation health questions by visiting: http://arkbi.org/donor-express/. Donor Express must be done the same day as the blood drive and is just one part of the screening process. Staff will review your responses with you and administer various health checks when you arrive. Same-day completion of Donor Express does not ensure you will be able to donate. Photo ID is required to donate.

    Blood donation takes just about an hour, and each donation can save the lives of up to three patients. Whole blood can be donated every 56 days. Platelet donations can be made as often as every seven days, up to 24 times a year. Donors 16 and younger must weigh at least 125 pounds and provide signed parental permission; 17-year-olds must weigh at least 125 pounds; 18 year-olds and older must weigh at least 110 pounds.
