SHERWOOD, Ark. (March12, 2020) - Sherwood Mayor Virginia Young issued the following statement regarding the recent decisions made by the Arkansas Department of Education and Arkansas Department of Health concerning Pulaski County:
The recent presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Pulaski County have prompted the following actions to protect the health and welfare of the citizens of Sherwood and surrounding areas. It is a difficult decision to suspend or cancel any large public gatherings such as sporting events, practices, or other special events within the City of Sherwood. The Sherwood Sorts Complex, Bill Harmon Recreation Center, Henson Tennis Center, Duran Youth Center and Jack Evans Senior Center will be closed to the public beginning Friday, March 13, 2020 and tentatively re-open March 30, 2020. All programs held in these facilities are suspended including the Sherwood After School Care Program, swim lessons, group fitness classes etc. During these closures, all facilities will be deep cleaned.
Small private gatherings that are meeting in rental facilities will be contacted as soon as possible to discuss details.
All other buildings will remain open at this time.
The City of Sherwood will continue to monitor this situation closely and will implement strategic actions as needed.
