On Saturday, May 21, the Sherwood Parks and Recreation Department invites the public to join the Kids to Parks Day Photo Scavenger Hunt. This event will have Sherwood families joining more than one million people at hundreds of national, state and local parks and public lands across the country participating in the 12th Annual National Parks Trust’s “Kids to Parks Day.” This free event is designed for participants to discover what awaits them in Sherwood’s parks by sending them on a photo scavenger hunt throughout the city for the week of May 15-21.

According to the National Parks Trust’s website,, Kids to Parks Day’s purpose is to connect kids to the experiences found in our parks. These outdoor and cultural experiences found in our parks help kids connect and discover something about themselves.

“While this event is designed for families with children, we invite anyone to put together a team and participate. I want people enjoying nature and the great outdoors in our parks,” said Jamie Fuell, event coordinator.

To participate in the scavenger hunt, get outside with a camera or smartphone. The scavenger hunt clues will be released via the city’s website at and Facebook page @cityofsherwoodar on Sunday, May 15. Participants will have all week to complete the photo scavenger hunt. On Saturday, May 21, participants must stop by the Bill Harmon Recreation Center between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to turn in photos and receive a giveaway while supplies last.
